Before stepping onto a professional baseball field, Greg Tomchick (B.S. Economics, 2015) was already building a legacy at Old Dominion University. As a student, he became the first to launch a business through the Strome Entrepreneurial Center, paving the way for a new generation of student founders at ODU.

Shortly after graduating, Greg was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals, where he spent several seasons as a professional pitcher. Discipline, leadership, and adaptability learned both in the Monarch community and on the mound became the foundation for his next chapter – entrepreneurship.

Today, Greg is the CEO of Valor Cybersecurity, a nationally recognized firm based in Norfolk, VA, helping defense contractors and private companies standardize cybersecurity, protect sensitive data, and build trust in the digital age. Before launching Valor, he led cybersecurity and risk programs for some of America’s most prestigious families and portfolios, gaining a rare perspective on how technology, leadership, and trust intersect.

Greg’s journey has remained deeply connected to Old Dominion University. Valor Cybersecurity continues to partner closely with the Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship and the broader ODU network – offering mentorship, collaborating on workforce initiatives, and supporting programs that bridge the gap between education and real-world impact.
